New Years Resolution

This year instead of regular new years resolutions, Daniel and I discussed starting a new daily habit every 30 days.

Basically the plan is to start a new habit or activity every month all year. This will hopefully help us build new habits and live healthier, more present lives.

I decided to get a head start in December when I started 20-30 minutes of transcendental meditation every day about half way through the month. I started a book called The Relaxation Response by Herbert Benson on recommendation of my GI therapist, Doctor Gaines. I will be honest, I don't remember to do 20-30 minutes each and every day, but I am getting about every other day, and it absolutely helps. Doctor Gaines suggested I not use poems or sayings as he thought I would get distracted over-analyzing, I agree that he was most likely correct. I've been reciting pi to the highest digit I can remember, when that gets to a point I can easily be distracted over pi, I add another digit. It's been working beautifully.

As a couple we also started playing a game called "Marital Bliss" in December. Each round lasts a week. Each week we each choose a prize if we win then draw seven missions we have to do through the week. The missions and the prizes are things that are nice to do for/with your partner and it's just a lovely way to be nice to each other and to discuss and think about new ways to be kind to each other. For under $15, I recommend it to all couples, new or old. It's absolutely a wonderful way to connect.

For January I have started quilting for 30 minutes a day (if I miss a day I make up the following day with an hour). I would like to one day finish the t-shirt quilt I started in 2016... maybe this will help.

Daniel has decided to doodle every day in January.
