I absolutely love infographics. When we started thinking about moving to Spain, I started researching every aspect of life in Spain I could think of. While doing that research I came across so many wonderful infographics, and I did not save them.
Since making the decision to move, I have started saving infographics relating to life in Spain to share with friends and family. I’m sure I’ll end up with several of these “life in Spain” post, I hope you all enjoy them as much as I enjoy learning about our future home. Not all of these are very scientific, but I think the difference will be clear.
Weather in Spain verses the USA

This fun infographic map makes fun comparisons to regions in Spain to what they match closest to in the USA. We’re moving to the coast of “warm Virginia”.

This very cool infographic shows how much and how hard it rains across the globe. You can see in the Southern USA when it rains, it pours. But in the Valencia region of Spain, it rains some, but it doesn’t pour.
Trains in Spain

This graphic shows that Spain has more high speed trains than any country outside of China. The AVE is a big reason we chose Spain to immigrate to. The fact that the country not only has trains, but continues to invest in this type of travel, is absolutely amazing.

This is a stunning subway style graphic of the high speed railways in Spain. Oh the places we will go!
Spanish Life & Culture

I am sure you can never prepare yourself for the culture shock enough. But infographics like this absolutely make me feel more comfortable about it. I’m most excited about the driving, fashion, and shopping shock. I’m most nervous for introductions and personal space.

Spain has some large cities, we’re moving to the third largest, but it also has some beautiful rural areas. We cannot wait to explore off the beaten paths.

The economy in Spain isn’t the best, and family is very important so many people live with their families until they are established.

As an American Southerner manners, hosting, visiting, and food are all very important to me. This little map from LoverOfGeography made me so happy. My Spanish guest won’t find it off putting when I try to feed them, and when I visit them they will feed me back. I can’t wait to share cobblers & biscuits and have paella shared with me in return.

Speaking of food, you guys. Spain is #3 for Best Cuisines in the world. And #1, #2, & #5 are super close to visit. We are so excited to try all the new foods. We also hear that fruits and vegetables taste better there, can’t wait to find out for ourselves.

Spain uses Olive oil & Sunflower oil for most of their cooking. Our Spanish teachers have both mentioned that sunflower oil is considered their cheap oil. Soy and corn oil are unheard of.

I think this little map is very interesting. I like that Spain is patriotic to its people.

This map doesn’t worry us, because we aren’t taking our vehicles to Spain, we’re planning on purchasing an electric vehicle in Spain and using solar panels to charge it.
Safety & Crime in Spain verses the USA

I was absolutely shocked to find out how much safer driving in Spain would be than driving in any US State I’ve ever lived in. In fact, Spain is safer than any state in the entire USA for road deaths.

Homicides & murder rates in the USA are very high, much higher than most of Europe, and Spain has low numbers for Europe.
