We started by doing some Google research when we were first considering retiring overseas. Spain has a few Visas that we were interested in for retirement, the non-lucrative and the golden Visa were the most desirable for retirement.
The non-lucrative visa is for people who do not need or plan to work while in Spain for a Spanish company. To be eligible for a non-lucrative visa you must have 26.000€ for yourself and an additional 7.000€ for each family member.
There is also the Golden Visa option. The Golden Visa is a great option if you plan on staying in Spain long term. The Golden Visa allows you to be out of Spain more days a year and extends to all dependents, including dependent parents.
After doing our own internet research we contacted an immigration attorney in Spain. We had our first appointment with her in mid February. We have a list of everything we're going to need and assurance that it will be simple in our circumstances.
We're hoping to move on a non-lucrative visa and to hopefully get a golden visa out of the sale of the Nashville properties.
With our hopeful schedule we've been told we'll start gathering documents at the end of the summer and visit the Spanish embassy in the fall to finalize our paperwork.
